Who We Are
The philosophy and success of MultiGrains Bakery starts with the original owner, Joseph Faro, whose vision for this business has been shaped by his desire to make quality products for people to truly enjoy. From humble beginnings in Sicily, Mr. Faro learned one important lesson: Never sacrifice the quality of the product!
Today MultiGrains Bakery has evolved into a state of the art baking facility with both national and international distribution, achieving one of the company's many goals of being an international supplier of Artisan and Whole Grain signature breads to the Far East.
The MultiGrains Baking facility is certified Kosher Pareve, and maintains strict procedures for HACCP, GMP’s, SSOP’s. We have passed the stringent requirements of AIB, Cook and Thurber and Silliker Laboratories with an excellent rating. In 2012 we have plans to move our QA, Sanitation, and Safety audits to the Global Food Safety Initiative with SQF 2000.
Our philosophy is that we will always go “the extra mile” to satisfy a customer, to promote and support our employees, to be good neighbors to our city and environment, and to maximize our energy and creativity to produce truly fantastic breads.
Today, like in years past bread is still an integral part of our every day life. At MultGrains we recognize this and aspire everyday to continue to bring Signature Artisan and Gourmet breads to your dinner table with flavor profiles and textures that please the pallet, enhance the meal and bring a thing of beauty to your dining table whether at home or at one of our fine partnering restaurants.
Joseph Faro
is the President and CEO. Joe came to America in 1958 from Sicily at the age of 14. Unable to speak English and traveling alone, Joe is a great example of the “American success” story. Through hard work, much trial and error, and a never-say-die ethic, Joe started several businesses in the Lawrence-Haverhill MA area, including, Joseph’s Gourmet Pasta Company, which turned into one of his great success stories. Born with an innate sense of what the customer is looking for in a great dining experience and meal, Joe developed Joseph’s Trattoria and Bakery , a highly successful high-end Italian restaurant in Haverhill, MA . Did I mention that he also “loves to bake?” It is Joe’s second great passion: wife and family being number one!
In 1976 Joe’s first small retail bakery opened in Haverhill, MA. Right from the start Joe offered old world Artisan breads and pastries. Word spread throughout New England of the high quality Italian breads being produced at his bakery causing Joe to expand to a 15,000 sq ft. baking facility. Demand continue to grew beyond New England and with it, Joe’s vision grew. In 1997 he incorporated Multigrains Bakery and expanded again. The new bakery offers 135,000 sq ft of state of the art yet old world artisan commercial baking capacity. Joe created his business plan around the bakery’s ability to service large restaurant chains and supermarkets with the highest quality Artisan and Gourmet breads. Staying true to his Artisan roots, Multigrains Bakery is a commercial bakery that uses Old World processes and techniques to keep the “art” in Artisan Breads. Staying ahead of the trends and curve he tailored the lines to Thaw & Serve and Refresh & Serve to deliver a great bread experience at the “peak of freshness” with minimal post-bake processing
Joseph also knew it would take a great team that was as committed as he was to great bakery products, and great customer service to properly develop and handle growing demand. Over the past few years Mr. Faro has been able to hand pick a dynamic group that has worked together to generate tremendous growth, great customer loyalty and satisfaction, and is poised for continued growth through creative innovation in all facets of the business. The company philosophy started by Joe is to always maintain the highest quality standards and ethics in creating great breads, supporting our customer/partners with great service, supporting our dynamic employee group, and in always being a good neighbor to the community.
Joe then realized it was time to go back to his roots in Italy and enhanced Multigrains offering by importing the finest Sicilian breads in the marketplace. All Natural, 100% Organic and delivered in a proprietary packaging that offers over 90 days shelf life guaranteed, these breads are truly unique and perfect for today’s marketplace.
His vision continues to look outward to remain the leader in producing Artisan breads that not only impress the palate but also continue to create the Gourmet and Artisan bread trends occurring in the marketplace today.
Joe has received several awards over the years including the Massachusetts Governor’s Inner City Investment Award from Governor Mitt Romney for job development and inner city renewal with Multigrains Bakery in 2004, along with Business Person of the Year in 2004 from the Northeastern Economic Development Association (NEDA) citing the three aforementioned companies with cited recognition from both the Massachusetts House of Representatives and Senate. In 2005 Joe received the Small Business Award from the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce again with recognition from the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Never one to forget the local community, Joe is also a member of the Lawrence Boys and Girls Club Hall of Fame since 2001, and also supports local food banks such as the Lawrence and Nashua Food Bank with product on a weekly basis.
